Identity: My name is Warren! But I guess I’m a transguy. It’s complicated, I guess I’m more a gay guy first, with trans history, but I’m so involved with trans activism that, let’s just add the layers together.

‪If you are not from Stockholm, do you see a difference between Stockholm and your hometown in regards to queer or trans acceptance?

Considering that I’m from Jefferson City, Missouri, yes! I’m from Jesusland! There’s nothing but Jesus and soybeans and oppression. In fact, another friend of mine from high school who I haven’t seen in seven years, I’ll see her for the first time in a couple weeks. She lives in Germany and she’s also out of the closet now, and I said something to her online, “Why weren’t we out together in high school?!” She said to me very directly- “They would’ve killed us.” And I was like, “Yeah, you’re probably right. They would’ve killed us.” It’s really sad, but it’s probably not far from the truth.

Identity: I usually say that I identify as trans somehow, and more masculine than something else, but I wouldn’t say man.

‪If you are not from Stockholm, do you see a difference between Stockholm and your hometown in regards to queer or trans acceptance?

I’m from Stockholm, but comparing it to other places where I’ve been, I don’t really know. I think the biggest difference that I’ve seen between Swedish cities is the amount of political action. I think that there’s a different type of politics going on in Malmö and Göteborg [Gothenburg], and that Stockholm is more academic and party, and in Malmö and Göteborg people do rallies and things like that more often. But I can’t connect it specifically to trans issues.
